Panda Boy hasn’t won for nearly two years but has put in a number of excellent performances in highly competitive handicaps in the meantime. The Martin Brassil trained gelding has twice finished placed in the white-hot 90k+ Paddy Power Handicap Chase run at the Christmas meeting at Leopardstown. Last season Panda Boy finished third, beaten less than a length and this season he finished second to Meetingofthewaters. In between those two races, he finished fifth in the Irish National and recently put in an eye-catching performance when fourth back over hurdles in a Pertemps Qualifier. The UK handicapper has given the eight-year-old a three pound higher mark over fences than his Irish counterpart but that has helped Panda Boy make the actual race. Trainer Martin Brassil has won the Grand National before in 2006 with Numbersixvalverde and is a very shrewd placer of his horses. This gelding’s high-class handicap form is likely to make him very popular with punters and don't be surprised if this horse is challenging for favouritism of the Grand National by the time of the race.
