Renowned as an excellent jumper but hasn't won for a while
Introduction
Connections of The Real Whacker didn’t waste any time moving the gelding over fences, giving him just four races over hurdles before it became obvious that his size could be put to better use over the larger obstacles.
The decision to go over fences early in his career looked a good one as the gelding won all three of his initial start,s culminating in a memorable victory at the Cheltenham Festival where he put in a stunning round of jumping and held off the classy Gerri Colombe by a short-head.
The following season didn’t go so well for The Real Whacker who failed to win but he did finish fourth in the King George and second in the Cotswold Chase.
The Real Whacker’s third season over fences produced another big highlight where he won the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby but defeats again at Kempton and Cheltenham confirmed that he was going to find it difficult to win at the very top level.
Since that win at Wetherby, the ten-year-old has struggled for good performances and whilst his excellent jumping could be an asset at AIntree, he doesn’t appear to be in the sort of form where he could be considered as real contender to win the big race.
