Rock The Kasbah Odds and Grand National Form 2019

17:49, 23 Mar 2019 Updated 17:59, 23 Mar 2019
Rock The Kasbah has been admirably consistent for Philip Hobbs winning races in bumpers, over hurdles and fences and rarely finishing out of the money is any of his races. Early in his career over fences, there was a question mark about his ability to get further than three miles but as he has got older his stamina has kicked in and his best recent performances have been at distances in excess of three miles. The nine-year-old gelding ended last season with an excellent runner-up placing in the National Hunt finale, the Bet365 Gold Cup. This season has seen the undoubted highlight being his victory in the 3m 3f handicap chase at the Cheltenham November meeting, but the upshot of that win is that Rock The Kasbah now has the highest handicap rating of his career and his subsequent defeat back at Cheltenham may suggest that he needs to come down the handicap again before being likely to win again. Another possible negative is the relatively poor record of his trainer Philip Hobbs and jockey Richard Johnson in the Grand National. The duo did finish second in 2014 with Balthazar King but, given the high-quality horses they have previously entered, it is surprising they have not had a few more near misses.
