One of the few races Nicky Henderson has failed to win in his long career is the Grand National but, in truth, he hasn’t had many strong chances in the last few years.
This year the master trainer relies on Hyland, if he makes the final field of thirty-four.
Hyland has shown flashes of solid staying form over extended trips such as when beaten less than two lengths by Deep Cave in a 57k race at Ascot in December
The nine-year-old gelding appears very ground dependent and tends to reserve his very best form for genuinely good ground which he may not get at Aintree.
His jumping, while not always foot-perfect, has generally held up well in large-field handicaps and he is likely to be ridden by one of the most experienced jockeys in the weighing room in Nico de Boinville.
