Grand National Preview from Horse Racing Tipster Onead
Thanks to Deano for sharing his thoughts for the 2008 Grand National.
Grand National Stats
Onead tries to narrow the Grand National field using recent Grand National stats.
Since 1988 only one horse that has been placed or indeed won in the previous years national has gone onto win the following year.
Only three horses in the history of the National have won the race in consecutive years. Red Rum the most recent (1973-4).
Since 1990 13 horses have gone for the double but the results speak for themselves (PPPPP00464026).
Since 1990 four winners failed to complete the Grand National course the year before.
The starting price of a Grand National horse may not seem that important but that seems to be following a trend too. Only three Grand National favorites have won in the last 21 years.
Only three Grand National winners from the last 11 have been bigger than 16/1 at the start of the race.
Middle of the Grand National betting market seems to be key as 11/1 shot Numbersixvalverde proved in 2007.
Every winner of the Grand National since 1970 has previosuly won over 3 miles so that must be taken into
account when making a selection.
