Sky Bet Grand National PreviewThanks to Richard Horner from SkyBet for his thoughts on the 2008 Grand National.
26/3/08
“The world’s greatest horse race is now just days away and the current favourite ‘Cloudy Lane’, trained by Donald McCain, the son of Red Rum’s trainer Ginger is currently at 6/1 with Sky Bet having been backed from 20/1. ‘Cloudy Lane’ is no doubt the best handicapped horse in the race having won twice after the weights were revealed.
Other eye catchers are last year’s third – ‘Slim Pickings’ who has been trained all season for Aintree and currently shows at 10/1; and ‘Simon’ will be very popular on the day as he was travelling well in 2007 before falling and has been in good form so far this year.
Champion jockey A P McCoy has never won ‘The National’ and his mount will be popular but he has yet to decide between Butlers Cabin, L’ami or King Johns Castle, which ever he chooses will be sure to shorten in the betting.

The horse Sky Bet currently do not want to see win at the moment is the Willie Mullins trained ‘Snowy Morning’ who has been the best backed horse since the weights were revealed been supported from 25/1 to 7/1 but after a disappointing run last time is back out to 14/1.”

BG Bet Grand National PreviewThanks to BGBet for their thoughts on the Grand National.
Back Comply Or Die at 12-1 with BGBet
The David Pipe trained 9-y-o Comply Or Die is tipped by BGBet to be a strong promise for the biggest race of the year, after proving his stamina at Newcastle on 23rd February over 4m1f. Slim Pickings at 10/1 with BGBet will also be a good each way bet at Aintree this year.
The bookmaker, who has been in the business for 35 years, will be keeping a close eye on the movement of Mckelvey (16/1) after a strong run last year and also the current favourite Cloudy Lane (6/1) – even though he has not gone the distance he looks a very strong stayer.
Due to his wealth of previous experience and recent improvement, Hedgehunter (25/1) will also be a popular horse with this year’s punters, as will Simon (14/1) who has been layed out for the race and was unfortunate to fall last year whilst travelling well.

Grand National Preview from SportingbetThanks to Sportingbet for their thoughts on the 2008 Grand National.
We'd be happy to lay Snowy Morning (too young), Hedgehunter (too old), Slim Pickings, Bewley's Berry (not good enough), Philson Run, L'Ami, Mom Mome and Turko.
We have Big Liabilities on Snowy Morning (no worries), Hedgehunter (no sweat man) and Cloudy Lane (could be a bad day)
We're looking to keep on our side: McKelvey (great weight, 3rd last year), Simon, Comply Or Die, Butlers Cabin, King Johns Castle, Mr Pointment (ignore Nicholls at your peril), Point Barrow (great Irish profile), Joes Edge

My own personal opinions lie with last year's race. I think McKelvey has a great chance off a favourable weight, he was third last year and I tend to think that good form in previous Grand National's counts for a lot.
Back McKelvey with Sportingbet
King Johns Castle must have a big chance. He seems to have come from nowhere but having a look at his form he looks good off 10 Stone 11 and of course AP may be on him too.
I was really sweet on Point Barrow last year but alas he came a cropper at the first fence. Off 10 Stone 13 I'm willing to give him one more chance as he has a great record in these type of races winning the Irish Grand National in 2006.
Another horse who let punters down last year was Joes Edge but if you're looking for an each way punt he may be the one off a low weight. Granted he has a lot to prove after a disappointing 12 months but if he rediscovers his Cheltenham 2007 form he'll be in the mix.
