Vic Venturi Odds and Grand National Form 2013
Found all sorts of trouble right from the first fence in the 2010 Grand National and it may be best to ignore that run, although the jockey that day (Roger Loughran) did report that his mount was enjoying himself so perhaps that is the main thing to take from his performance.
Before the 2010 race handicapper Phil Smith made no secret of the fact that he thought the Dessie Hughes horses were four or five pounds well in given their form since the weights were announced and given the performance of stablemate Black Apalachi he was probably right.
Vic Venturi tried again in last season's Grand National but fared no better again being brought down at the second fence.
Now twelve-years-old, Dessie Hughes has sent the son of Old Vic point-to-pointing and this appears to have done no harm as Vic Venturi has recorded two wins. It's hard to know just how much ability the horse retains but his win in the 2009 Becher Chase was a top class course performance and if he were anywhere near that level he could still run well in the National itself.
