Niche Market Odds and Grand National Form
Didn't make the weights for the 2009 Grand National so was diverted to Fairyhouse for the Irish alternative where he provided a 33/1 shock when staying on in fine style to see off Church Island.
Connections of the horse have always been very positive about his prospects and have not been frightened to go after big races with two attempts at Cheltenham's National Hunt Chase (4th in 2008 and 8th in 2009) and another bookie friendly 33/1 victory when taking the BGC Silver Cup at Ascot in 2008 from the very reliable yardstick, Monkerhostin.
His win at Fairyhouse put him up to 145 which would have been an ideal weight at Aintree but his excellent run when third to the mighty Denman in the 2009 Hennessy caught the handicappers attention and he put him in on 152 for the 2010 National.
Things didn’t quite go to plan at Aintree when Niche Market was struck into at the twelfth fence and had to be pulled up after sustaining a nasty cut.
Transferred to the yard of Paul Nicholls after the 2010 Grand National where the Champion Trainer has given the horse a wind operation in an attempt to help him see out his races better.
Tried the Grand National again in 2011 and ran a fine race to finish fifth to Ballabriggs.
Looks set for another stab at the Grand National in 2012 and warmed up with a fine second place in the 2011 Becher Chase.
