Grand National Trainers
|
What The Grand National Trainers SayThe Grand National trainers know their horses better than anyone. Take your Grand National tip straight from the trainers mouths! Below are many leading trainers comments about their horses before the 2008 National.
Grand National Trainers - Their Comments Following the announcement of the weights in February 2008, many of the Grand National trainers were asked their thoughts and asked to comment on the chance of their Grand National runners.
 | Slim Pickings at 33-1 with VC Bet |
The pick of the comments was that from Tom Taaffe who said
“Slim Pickings is in great form and has had a couple of runs this season... He looks on a fair mark, only 1lb higher than last year, and if he runs likethat again you'd have to be hopeful. It was very encouraging that he ran so well there last year and the place really lit him up and he did jump well...”
Vodka Bleu will not be running
David Pipe seemed most confident about Vodka Bleu
"Vodka Bleu is one of Timmy Murphy's favourite horses. He ran in the Topham last year and he jumped round nicely."
McKelvey will not be running
Peter Bowen had this to say about McKelvey
"You would have to be happy with McKelvey's weight, as it's not that much more than he carried last year. He's in really good form and we have had the leg checked and it's fine."
Kelami will not be running
French trainer, Francois Doumen said that he was surprised Kelami fell last year
“It is such a hard task – the most difficult race to train for. I was surprised Kelami fell last time, as he was going quite well at the time. He's fine now. L'Ami has been difficult to get to his right fitness, but is coming progressively into shape and it has been the aim to have him in the race.”
 | Cloudy Lane at 33-1 with VC Bet |
Its always worth paying attention to what Red Rums yard has to say of course. Donald mcCain had this to say about Cloudy Lane and Idle Talk.
“I'd be happy with Cloudy Lane's weight – getting them in the race is the most important thing. It would be nice if Beef Or Salmon were to turn up, as we would have a cracking weight then. Idle Talk's weight gives him more of a chance than last year. He's not certain to go, but if we do decide to run, it seems a sensible rating. He ran a very nice race at Doncaster the other day, so no complaints. Bannister Lane might struggle to get in off that weight and he will go for what was the Eider at Newcastle. He will have other years.”
Grand National Trainers who Have Won Before! The Grand National has proved to be a race where certain trainers have had continued success.
These trainers know what is required to win the Grand National. This could be their year all over again!
The winners from 2007 and 2006 (Silver Birch and Numbersixvalverde) have unfortunately not made the entries for 2008 due to injury however 2005 winner Hedgehunter, trained by Willie Mullins, is still going strong at 12 years old.
He is one of seven entries in the big race for the Irish trainer but it his more fancied stablemate, Snowy Morning, who may give Mullins the best chance of another Aintree success. Runner up to Denman in the Sun Alliance Chase last year, he looks to be improving and is one to watch.
Aintree legend Ginger McCain has handed training responsibility on to his son Donald and they have three entries including the progessive Cloudy Lane.
Martin Pipe's son David is now very much forging his own reputation and he has a massive eleven entries. Best of these might be Over The Creek who ran well for a long way in the Welsh National.
Kim Bailey won the National as long ago as 1990 with Mr. Frisk and he attempts for a long range double with the quietly fancied Longshanks.
1998 and 2002 were the years that Earth Summit and Bindaree won the race for Nigel Twiston-Davies and he has eight horses left in this year’s race including the former Cheltenham Festival winner Fundamentalist.
Grand National Trainers with the Most EntriesThese Grand National trainers look like they are really going for it this year!.
Peter Bowen is joint top of the leader board for the most number of entries in this years National with a staggerring eleven horses! He is obviously desperate to avenge last years unlucky defeat of McKelvey
David Pipe also weighs in with eleven entries for the big race and Over The Creek looks to be the pick of these.
Over The Creek will not be running
Other trainers withh big teams are Nigel Twiston-Davies with eight entires and Champion trainer Paul Nicholls who holds a very strong hand with seven entries as he looks to avenge his poor record in this race. |
