Siegemaster Odds and Grand National Form
Hails from the powerful Gigginstown House Stud operation and although took a while to gain his first success Siegemaster always shaped as though he was a horse to keep an eye on.
Connections decided to try their luck with him in the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 2008 and he rewarded their faith with a close fourth place behind Nenuphar Collonges.
Any success over hurdles was always likely to be overshadowed by his performances over fences and two novice chase victories prompted a return to Cheltenham in 2009 for the RSA Chase. Unfortunately Siegemaster failed to negotiate the Prestbury Park fences successfully but he did sign off for the season with a respectable third placing in the Mildmay Novices Chase at Aintree.
The 09/10 season started well with a win at Wexford and since then the Dessie Hughes trained gelding has been placed three times, including in two of Ireland's top handicaps. Consequently his handicap mark has been rising without winning a big race but he potentially still has the scope to be competitive in a race such as the Grand National from his new mark of 149, although may need soft ground over fences to be at his best.
