Notre Pere Odds & Grand National Form
Became the first Irish horse to win the Welsh National when a seven length victor from Cornish Sett at Chepstow in December 08 and was quickly installed towards the head of the market for the 2009 Grand National.
Connections always voiced concerns about the viability of the likely ground at Aintree but unfortunately injury intervned and Notre Pere was withdrawn in March.
The Irish and Scottish Nationals were then mentioned as possible targets but the ground proved unsatisfactory on both occasions and the horse was prepared instead for his impressive win at the Punchestown Festival where he proved much too good for a very good field in the Guinness Gold Cup.
Currently sits on a mark of 163 and likely to go up at least 7lb after that victory so would look likely to be vying with Denman for top weight if both horses are entered for the 2010 Grand National.
His trainer stated at a very early stage in this horse's career that he had "endless stamina" and that would undoubtedly stand him in good stead at Aintree but he would faces a very stiff task.
