My Will Odds & Grand National Form
Seems to have been around for years but is only just ten years old, although he had had over thirty races over fences. It was therefore unusual that he was talked of as being well handicapped going into the 2009 Grand National. The reason for that was a career best performance in last year's Cheltenham Gold Cup where he belied his 100/1 starting price to finish a very respectable 5th behind stablemate Kauto Star. This effort at Cheltenham propelled him into ante-post favouritism for Aintree for a while and he eventually went off 8/1 joint second favourite. Ruby Walsh cajoled the French bred gelding round to finish third in the end but said afterwards that four of five mistakes cost him valuable impetus.
Owned by the Stewart Family who have been keen supporters of races over the National fences in recent years it would be very surprising if My Will was not aimed at the National in 2010. My Will finished second to The Listener in Grade One at Down Royal on his reappearance and has since had a couple of outings to keep him fresh and the handicapper has seen fit to drop him seven pounds as a result of him being well beaten in his last two outings. If that rating is reflected in his Grand National weight he would again have a very good chance as he is as game as they come and rarely fails to make the frame so could well reward each-way support.
