Merigo Odds and Grand National Form
Won the 2010 Scottish National in emphatic fashion when Merigo was given a superb attacking ride from the front by Timmy Murphy and in so doing won Ayr's showpiece race for his father-in-law, Raymond Anderson Green.
Merigo's stamina looks assured for Aintree and it was a shame he did not make the final forty horses for the 2011 Grand National. Connections instead had to target a return to Ayr to defend his Scottish National crown and he made a great attempt only finding the unexposed Beshabar three quarters of a length too good. His runner-up sport at Ayr had come at fifteen pound higher mark than his 2010 victory and it can only be hoped that between connections and the handicapper they do enough to get this horse into the Grand National for 2012 as he will surely be a very interesting competitor.
Merigo has recorded victories on ground ranging from good to heavy so underfoot conditions should not be a concern. Merigo did, however, fall in the 2011 Becher Chase but connections were happy with the way the horse jumped to that point and have stated that he is a notoriously hard horse to get fit before Xmas. The Grand National is likely to be on Merigo's agenda once again and it can only be hoped we will get to his at Aintree in 2012.
