Maljimar Odds and Grand National Form
Appeared to have last year's Cheltenham William Hill Chase at his mercy when hitting the front at the 2nd last fence but an inspired ride from AP McCoy galvanised Wichita Lineman into a strong late run and Maljimar was defeated by a neck.
His jockey, Daryl Jacob, came in for a lot of criticism for that ride which appeared unfair given the heroics performed by the Champion Jockey to get his mount up on the line.
Nevertheless, it did call into question the stamina reserves of Nick Williams' charge and as that race was at three miles those contemplating backing him over a further 1 1/2 miles can only be optimistic that an extreme waiting ride would see him last out the Grand National trip, although has recently been placed in a 3m 7f cross-country race.
This horse has looked very progressive and could well win a big race at some point but hard to see it being the Grand National.
