Garde Champetre Odds and Grand National Form
The 530,000gns price tag was starting to become a millstone for all connected with this horse but he has found a new lease of life since moving to Enda Bolger and being introduced to Cross Country races. Has now won 75% of the Cross Country races he has competed in, tasting defeat only twice.
In doing so has taken over the mantle from Spotthedifference as the horse to beat in these unusual events and has undoubtedly become a favourite with his owner, JP McManus.
The possibility of Garde Champetre running in the Aintree Grand National was discussed all last year but in the end his return to regulation fences was diverted to the Irish National However, despite retaining the services of his favourite jockey, Nina Carberry and going off a well backed 10/1 shot, he never looked like getting competitive at Fairyhouse and was eventually Pulled Up. This wouldnt augur well for a crack at Aintree and it could be that Garde Champetre will be kept to Cross Country races from now on.
