Chief Dan George Odds and Grand National Form
A winner of a Grade One hurdle (The Sefton at Aintree defeating Wichita Lineman) and achieved a rating of 150 over the smaller obstacles. Had a stuttering start to his chasing career having to wait until his fourth outing to register his first success and, it has to be said, did not look a natural at all. Nevertheless, he finished his novice year with two wins over fences and a good fifth to Hello Bud in the Scottish National in his first run in a handicap over fences (off 139). The 09/10 season started slowly with three defeats but he came back with a bang with two great wins - firstly in a veterans chase at Doncaster and then defying odds of 33/1 to win the prestigious William Hill Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. In the latter, he always looked to be going well and jumped with much more fluency than on most of his other races over fences. He looked sure of a convincing victory at Cheltenham but started to tie up in the last few yards and was being worn down by The Package only to prevail by a head. Trainer Jimmy Moffatt was obviously delighted with this upturn in form and was positive about the horse's chances at Aintree but the horse did not make the actual race in 2010.
Missing the 2010 Grand National was a shame for this horse as although he is certain of a run this year his form is nowhere near as good and he comes into the race on the back of a crashing fall in the race he won last year at Cheltenham. Hard to fancy.
