Cerium Odds and Grand National Form
Trained by Paul Nicholls between 2004 and 2008 and achieved seven victories for the Champion trainer at distances around 2 miles.
However, he appeared to have reached a ceiling with his form and had failed to put in a worthwhile performance in the last eighteen months of his career with Nicholls.
Was subsequently sold to Paul Murphy for 18,000 guineas and has had one run for his new trainer before last years Grand National when a 300/1 shot in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham. Traded at 500/1 and above in the week before the National but eventually went off a mere 100/1 shot and looked to be just making the numbers up but belied his lack of obvious form when running a huge race to finish fifth. This was subsequently shown to be an even better performance as the horse had managed to achieve his lofty position whilst also acquiring a fractured skull during the course of the race! Races off the same mark in 2010 as he did last year so theoretically can make his mark again but hard to see lightning striking twice.
