Apt Approach Odds and Grand National Form 2013
Apt Approach has only registered one win over further than twenty-one furlongs at the time of writing so as such his stamina may give some concern for a race like the Grand National. However, he is from the family of Irish National winner Feathered Gale so there must be every chance that he could even improve for a thorough test of stamina.
Always well regarded by his stable, Apt Approach was sent off the 4/1 second favourite for the Cheltenham Bumper in 2008 where he finished a respectable sixth.
His career over hurdles was restricted to just two outings after an interrupted season in 08/09 and he went straight into novice chase in the winter of 2009.
Apt Approach won over fences on his second attempt but his early fencing career was rather blighted by a tendency to make mistakes. This trend continued into his second season over the larger obstacles and this culminated in two successive failures to complete in May of last year.
Willie Mullins then gave Apt Approach six months off and the nine-year-old has come back a different animal winning all three of his starts to date in 11/12.
Whilst the third of his wins was at Grade two level it has to be said that none of his recent wins have appeared the most competitive of races and the biggest field he has faced has been seven runners. Mullins has stated that his charge will head to the Cheltenham Festival this year after his return to form and plans for Aintree are likely to be finalised after the stable review his performance at Cheltenham.
